As if the blow of losing striker Darren Byfield to League One rivals Millwall wasn’t bad enough, Gills chairman Paul Scally has revealed he is ‘not holding his breath’ that goalkeeper Jason Brown will stay at the club.

Brown’s agent met the club on Monday and it had been hoped that the two parties were close to a deal that would keep the 24-year-old Welsh International at the club.

But Scally told Kent Online: ‘It`s still on-going. It`s up to Jason Brown, really, but we`re not holding our breath.

‘It`s not a derisory offer – it`s substantial and it`s his decision. In the meantime, the manager will be looking at other alternatives.’

Oh dear. It doesn’t look good.

But I trust Jeppo to try and find a decent replacement, as gutted as I am about Browno’s possible departure.

As long as it’s not Tony Bullock!

Why are players leaving for other teams in the same league. Is that saying something is wrong at your club. Why the demise, or is it just the way i’m seeing it?

  • JonP says:

Money. That’s the only issue. Byfield’s on £5k a week at Millwall. We simply cannot afford that.
