After a slightly false start thanks to a floodlight failure the Gills might have wished the lights stayed off as they crashed out of the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy.

After an impressive first half that saw Garry Richards put the Gills ahead, before Izale McLeod equalised from the spot after seven minutes.

After that the Gills imploded after half time with McLeod netting another and missing a penalty as well as Mark Marshall finding the net.

After four minutes they were ahead a Rooney free kick was tapped home by Garry Richards from six yards to make it 1-0.

Barnet were awarded a penalty in the 10th minute, Frampton was adjudged to have fouled Kamdjo. McLeod rifled home the spot kick for 1-1.

With 20 minutes gone Nouble crossed it evaded Kuffour, but Rooney was following up but his feeble shot was straight at O’Brien in goal.

22 minutes in Borrowdale timed a challenge well with Rooney about to pull the trigger, from the corner Frampton headed wide.

After 24 minutes Frank Nouble ran the entire length of the pitch. He crossed for Stefan Payne who saw his first shot saved and his follow up blocked, Jackman’s corner saw Rooney’s shot well saved.

On the half hour a great run from Luke Rooney saw him burst into the box only for O’Brien to save well with his feet.

Frank Nouble headed over a Stefan Payne cross at the far post on 35 minutes with just the keeper to beat.

Just before half time Frampton challenged the keeper and the ball broke to Jo Kuffour who hit his shot straight at the keeper.

Into the second half Stefan Payne had the first chance on 53 minutes when he struck his shot at the keeper after Frampton headed on.

Just after the hour Matt Fish flashed a shot just wide of the near post from 25 yards out.

Three minutes later Stefan Payne tried his luck from distance as well; his shot was deflected over for a corner. Luke Rooney’s corner was cleared by Barnet.

On 72 substitute Chris Whelpdale went to ground Mark Marshall rounded him and fired his shot low into the bottom corner to make it 1-2.

The wheels came off in the 77th minute Richards misjudged a header, McLeod raced through and Gazzaniga brought him down. McLeod stepped up and fired well over the bar.

It was all over on 84 when a Charlie Taylor ball split the Gills defence for McLeod to slot home and make it 1-3.

Gills did find the net but it was ruled out for offside when Kedwell headed home a Nouble cross in the 87th minute.

It could have been four for Barnet but Paulo Gazzaniga saved well from Sam Deering after Steve Kabba chased a lost cause and set him up in the last minute.
