Gillingham’s chance to make sure that League 1 football was on the agenda next season was lost when relegation threatened Leyton Orient battled back in a six-goal thriller on Easter Monday.

Having recovered from a goal down we then went into a three-one lead before the Leyton Orient fightback at the Matchroom Stadium with them securing a late point in the three-three draw.

When Hedges was fouled in the area Leyton Orient had a penalty just past the half hour mark, James (31) took this and scored. A reply was swift tough with McGlashan (35) soon equalising before McDonald (43) marked his return to the starting XI with a goal ahead of the break to put us in front.

The Gills had a penalty early in the second half when Lowry fouled Norris, McDonald (56) stepped up and made no mistake to make it three-one.

Henderson (67) followed up to give the hosts hope at the midway point of the second half before Wright (85) fired past Morris to make it three-three.

Leyton Orient remain outside of the bottom four on goal-difference but we’re just six-points clear of the drop zone ourselves!
Bradford (h)
With the gap a little too close for comfort again we need a win or two, and fast! Ideally starting in our next game against Bradford at Priestfield, but will we get this?
