Huddersfield have revealed that Gills manager Ronnie Jepson is one of the candidates to become their new manager.

The Gills boss has been linked with the job at the Galpharm Stadium after Peter Jackson was sacked earlier this week.

Jepson, who was appointed Gills manager in November 2006, played for the Terriers between 1993 and 1996 and received a warm reception when the two clubs met in February.

The speculation began to mount when Gills chairman Paul Scally told Radio Kent: ‘Huddersfield called yesterday to ask if their chairman could talk to me. And of course I said yes.

‘Ronnie was always going to be linked because he’s a bit of a legend after his time as a player there.’

However, despite what it looks like, the club later stressed that Scally’s comments did not mean the Gills have given permission to Huddersfield to approach Jepson.

A club spokesman said: ‘The chairman’s secretary at Huddersfield has rung our chairman to ask if her chairman can ring ours concerning the vacant manager’s position at Huddersfield.

‘To say that Ronnie is in talks with Huddersfield would be wide of the mark at this stage.’

And Huddersfield chairman Ken Davy later cleared up the situation, telling PA Sport: ‘We would not want to have a conversation with anyone unless we had gone through the proper channels.

‘We are anxious to trawl the current market place as widely as possible to ensure that when the board comes to consider the issue of a new manager we have the widest choice possible.

‘There is no-one specifically in the frame. There are no favourite sons. We are simply looking at the whole market place.’

But Jepson himself insists his only focus is on Saturday’s important game with Crewe and said: “I don`t go on speculation, and I don`t read websites.

“I know through one or two of my friends I`ve been linked with things, but all I`m doing is focusing on Gillingham for the game on Saturday.”

How would GFC cope without RJ?? We might not even have been in League One without him. Do you think Mr Scally will offer RJ more money to stay???

Nope, how can he offer him more money we dont have any money anyway! I think it might do us both good for a change but not until the end of the season

I think we should keep Ronnie until the end of the Season,we dont want to swap Managers when we are so close to the bottom four.I agree with GATW that a change might do The Club and Ronnie good.
