The Wright Stuff

Josh Wright had been training with Gillingham in pre-season and ahead of the new campaign his return to the club, where he helped us to promotion into League 1 at the end of the 2008/09 season via the play-off final, was confirmed on the Official Website.

Wright, following his release by Leyton Orient, having previously been with Charlton, Scunthorpe, Crawley and Millwall, returned to the Gills ahead of the Sheffield United win on Saturday with a short-term deal agreed.

Justin Edinburgh had been impressed with the 25-year-old and feels this short-term deal is, initially, the right thing to do as he looks to prove himself worthy of a longer-term deal.

The Gills boss said.

‘From the day he came into training his attitude has been superb and he looks in good condition.

‘He’s got a bit to prove and we’ve given him the opportunity to do that on a short term deal.’

The midfielder only made eight first-team appearances for Gillingham during that previous loan spell with the club from Charlton but he left a permanent mark, and could yet leave a longer lasting one.

I’m not betting against Wright getting this longer deal either….are you?
