Gillingham went into the game with Leyton Orient on Saturday knowing that the pressure was firmly on Peter Taylor to deliver, fortunately we managed this getting a dramatic win.

We came from behind to lead but were pegged back in injury-time before an even later dramatic goal earned us our 3-2 win at Priestfield, much to Taylor’s relief and pleasure.

Taylor knew that we ‘had to win’ that game, had we not he may well have paid with his job as he savoured the moment praising the character of his team.

After the game he told the media: ‘It’s a lovely finish. It’s a lovely feeling to get three points again.

‘I know Orient are down there, but they’ve still got lots of good players. It’s a nice feeling, I think every different thing that could have happened did happen today.

‘We showed fantastic character. We had to win this match. It was an important win. I’m delighted for the supporters, the results and form have not been good enough.’

Danny Kedwell missed the chance to give us a half time lead when he missed a penalty, Gianvito Plasmati (48) didn’t when he converted his own early in the second half to put Leyton Orient ahead.

Two Leon Legge (55 & 74) goals turned it around and looked to have given us the win, until Chris Dagnall (90+4) deep into injury-time levelled! Even deeper into injury-time though Cody McDonald (90+8) got the winner to secure a much needed three-two win.

Taylor knows we ‘needed a league win’ and it is a ‘good feeling.’

Legge and McDonald were praised for their efforts and the threat they posed from the set pieces we scored from, adding: ‘All three goals came from set pieces, I’m pleased with that. Legge is doing really well, he’s defensively better now and he’s so powerful in air. When he moves around in the box, he’s hard to mark. His two headers were outstanding.

‘I’m pleased for Cody, too. He said before the game that I left him out for three matches last year and that it did him good. I’m so pleased he came off the bench and got the goal.’

Now, with us up to 19th and out of the relegation zone, we need to build on this.
