Adam Birchall is poised to join Dartford on loan, for the first half of the season anyway.

The Conference outfit have made a loan approach for the 28-year-old, and with him in need of first team football and unlikely to get it at Priestfield this is likely to go ahead.

Martin Allen, as he told BBC Radio Kent, said: ‘The offer is to take him until 2 January. I could keep him here but he will probably get frustrated. He needs to play games and go out and score goals.

‘He was in and out of the team last year. More than anything, for his career, he needs a run of games to do what he does best.

‘I had a chat with the chairman and I think it is good idea he goes out until January and then we review it.’

The striker doesn’t appear to have a future with the Gills but if definitely makes sense for him to go out on loan, if he’s not going to be moving on permanently.
