A dramatic late goal denied Gillingham a point at the weekend as a previously earlier late goal looked like it might have given us another surprise weekend win.

Gillingham almost shocked Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday afternoon, a late goal put us ahead but a late equaliser brought the hosts level before a dramatic late, late injury-time winner gave the Blades a 2-1 win.

I think it was fair to say that we ‘rode our luck’ for large periods of a game that Sheffield United dominated for the most part.

Effort from Harrison McGahey and Callum Davies were both cleared off the line and the woodwork also rescued us from a Stefan Scougall effort.

Against all odds Luke Norris (83) fired us into a late lead, which looked like it might have seen us snatch the points!

Three-minutes from time Stephen Bywater was finally beaten though a Michael Higdon (87) equalised from close range, a point would be more than acceptable though but Sheffield United had other ideas.

Deep into injury-time, seven-minutes into it, Jamie Murphy (90) struck a late blow to give the hosts, which they probably deserved, a two-one win.
