It was announced this week that seven players have been offered new contract by Gillingham, although such is how these things worked it was also confirmed that six would leave Priestfield.

Michael Freiter and Tom Hadler have both gained one-year extensions with one-year professional deals offered to youngsters Greg Cundle, Mitchell Dickenson and Callum Emptage.

Injuries have restricted Josh Hare and Aaron Millbank, but they’re still in Justin Edinburgh’s future plans so they’ve been offered six-month extension with them having the chance to then ‘prove their fitness’ and earn longer deal.

Another that’s been sidelined due to a broken leg is Jack Sellens but he’s been ‘invited back for pre-season training’ and could still have a Gills future.

Those that wont though are Dan Bent, Aidan Blanchard, Devante McKain, Mahlon Romeo, Josh Staunton and Charlie Webster, as Edinburgh confirmed that they will all be released this summer they were of course thanked for their efforts and wished well for the future.

Players offered the chance to stay were challenged to ‘take it’ and to start the proper ‘hard work’ going forward.
