Reports this morning are suggesting that Simon Royce is set to be offered the role of goalkeeping coach.

The veteran keeper is also expected to stay on as back-up to current number one Alan Julian.

Royce who found himself on the bench for the second half of last season, after a car crash had not hidden his desire to stay with the Gills and also move into coaching.

Talking to Kent Online , Hess said: ‘With Roycey, we’re looking for a goalkeeper coach and he is ready for that move.

‘For me, Alan Julian needs day-to-day goalkeeping coaching and we could kill two birds with one stone with Simon as he could also be back-up.’

In other news John Nutter has activated the clause in his contract and has taken up the extra year with the Gills.
