Gillingham rescued a point late on against Rochdale at Spotland on Saturday afternoon.

A first half goal looked like it would see the home side through to a one-nil win but when you’ve got a goalscorer of the quality that we have you always have a chance, and so that proved with a late goal securing us a 1-1 draw.

Peter Vincenti (25) headed Rochdale into the lead, but chances missed prior to this and after it, proved very costly.

Stephen Bywater, who continues to keep his place in goal for Gillingham, has previously played for Rochdale and he came back to haunt his former club as he saved twice from dangerous Michael Rose efforts.

Despite the dominance of the home side Cody McDonald would have drawn us level before the break but Rochdale ‘keeper Conrad Logan produced a good save to deny him.

Rochdale continued to have the better of the game in the second end but McDonald (83) followed up from a tight angle, after a goalmouth scramble to make it one-one with less than 10-minutes to play.
