As he seeks to get some regular first-team football under his belt in his continued recovery from a long-term injury Matt Fish has opted for a loan spell with Portsmouth.

Fish has been limited to just six first-team appearance for Gillingham this season, most recently he played in our two-one win over Crawley Town in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, with him completing a temporary loan move to Portsmouth ahead of last weekends games.

A member of our side that got promoted from league 2 the season before last the right back sustained a cruciate knee ligament injury in the opening minutes of our first league 1 fixture against Colchester United last season, with him battling back from injury to make an appearance against Shrewsbury Town on the final day of the campaign.

In order to get some minutes on the pitch under his belt, which will benefit us, Fish and Portsmouth a loan move until 3rd January was agreed on Friday with him making his debut in a three-nil win over Morecambe on Saturday, a game that he played the full 90-minutes of.
