Justin Edinburgh very much has Josh Wright in his first-team plans, which is why his contract has recently been extended, but the future of Jermaine McGlashan had seemed less certain to be with Gillingham?

However, Edinburgh has moved to clarify that McGlashan ‘massively has a role’ at Gillingham with him still very much part of his future plans.

The winger hasn’t managed a League 1 start so far this season and didn’t even make the squad for the two-one defeat at Colchester, the first Gillingham had suffered of course, but the Gills boss insists he has a part to play but a player or two will always miss out!

Edinburgh told KentOnline.

‘Away from home we had to make sure we had more defensive cover and Bradley Gamston gave us that. Jermaine will have a big part to play.

‘What we have to realise is, we have a very strong squad and we are only one body away from a full squad and people will miss out.

‘It’s not unnatural for players to not make the matchday 18. Players will miss out during the season but I don’t think we need to read too much into it.’

With the unbeaten run ending the boss could look to make changes, with the ‘form of the team and the system working’ Edinburgh had previously, understandably so, been unwilling to do so but is left in ‘no doubt’ he’ll have his part to play despite being limited to less than 90-minutes of league action so far.

His two starts had come in the League Cup.

As for Wright his delight at the new deal signed, which will take him through until the end of the season, on Friday has been shared on the Official Website.

The 25-year-old midfielder is now looking to focus fully on his football now that his future is secured.

‘I was delighted, at the end of the day I’ve been here for a while so it wasn’t as if I had just come in on Friday. I’ve loved it since the first day and I haven’t looked back, the boys have welcomed me along with the fans and the staff.

‘And considering we have been doing well and been top of the table it’s made it all the better and I can’t wait to kick on.

‘Gillingham gave me my chance and I have to thank them for that and you have to show loyalty. The offer from the MLS was there, they were saying this and saying that but I wasn’t ready.

‘I wasn’t focused on anywhere else. This was the only club I wanted to be at, I was more than happy when it gone done and hopefully we can put that to one side and concentrate on moving forward.’
