Gillingham’s League 1 season continued with a defeat against Wigan at the DW Stadium on Thursday.

An unusual Thursday night kicked off this limited schedule (due to continued FA Cup involvement for some) with a promotion battle edged out by Wigan with a three-two win after Gillingham had been two-up and on course for a win!

Dominic Samuel and Rory Donnelly goals had the Gills two-nil up with 53-minutes played by two goals in three-minutes from Will Grigg and Max Power had Wigan level by the midway point of the second half.

It looked like it would end in a draw until a winner was scored by Wigan captain Craig Morgan in the sixth-minute of injury-time to complete the comeback with a last gasp winner for the home side.

These were the other results.

Thur 7 Jan 2016 – League One
Wigan 3-2 Gillingham

Sat 9 Jan 2016 – League One
Blackpool 0-1 Port Vale
Oldham 1-2 Millwall
Rochdale 2-3 Chesterfield
Swindon 4-2 Southend

Millwall and Rochdale saw their play-off bids receive differing outcomes, the Lions won two-one at Oldham whereas Rochdale suffered a setback against improving Chesterfield, who continue to improve their own survival hopes, as they lost three-two at Spotland.

Southend too suffered another blow to their play-off push with another defeat; from two-up they ended up losing four-two at Swindon.

Gillingham are back in action at the weekend when they go to Doncaster.
