Jo Kuffour became a fans favourite this weekend by scoring his first two goals for the club.

Both goals came in the first half and it set the Gills on their way to three valuable points.

Speaking to the Official Site, Jo said: ‘It was a great performance from the lads today and we did everything that we wored on in training. It’s always nice to score against your old club and I thought the lads were terrific. I thought that we were tremendous after they pulled the two goals back andI thought we could have got another four or five.

Jo hasnt got fully up to match fitness just yet but there it is clear there is more to come from the striker.

He added: ‘I’m still not 100% and I’ve missed a large portion of the season.

‘Obviously, before I came here I had missed five weekends and been training with the kids, which doesnt help. But I feel like I’m getting back into it now. I’m getting stronger so hopefully i can keep progressing. It’s nice to get a fresh start and I’m pleased to have my first goals for Gillingham as well.’

Having run the Torquay United defence ragged on Saturday he is sure to be in the starting line-up come kick-off against Oxford this weekend.

He is starting to show in the last few weeks just why Andy Hessenthaler brought him in to the Gills on loan for three months.
