Matt Jarvis may be the Gills’ best player and the envy of many clubs up and down the country, but he has missed out on a place in the Top 50 players in the Football League.

The poll was held by FourFourTwo magazine and published in their April 2007 issue, which is available now.

Jarvis and Gills skipper Michael Flynn were both nominated in the poll, but neither have made the cut, with Jarvis being listed on the also-rans page alongside greats like Kevin McIntyre and Andy Marriott.

It merely says: ‘Stylish winger who is destined to play higher up the ladder.’

Given the recent £650,000 bid from his services from Nottingham Forest, it is a surprise to see names like Jamie Forrester (Lincoln), Ian Roper (Walsall) and Louis Carey (Bristol City) named in the top 50, while Jarvis misses out.

MK Dons’ Izale McLeod is the top League Two player at 36 in the list, while Scunthorpe’s Billy Sharp was named League One player of the year by finishing 14th.

Other League One players included are Port Vale’s Leon Constantine (48), Forest duo Kris Commons (46) and Nathan Tyson (31), Scunthorpe goalkeeper Joe Murphy (42), Swansea’s Lee Trundle (40), Crewe hot-shot Luke Varney (38) and Richie Wellens (37) and Chris Porter (29), both of Oldham.

West Brom midfielder Jason Koumas was named best player at the awards, which were held on Sunday and can been seen on Sky Sports One on Thursday evening at 6.30pm.
