As we move closer towards the ‘business end of the season’, as they call it, Justin Edinburgh is plotting a move into the transfer market with the loan window now open again, as will remain the case until later next month.

Gillingham have dropped for fourth recently after losing to Blackpool and drawing with Swindon but remain just a point off automatic promotion with Edinburgh looking to boost this with a striker.

He’s searching the market to see if he could bring someone in, but told KentOnline they’ll obviously only be turned to if they’re an improvement on what we’ve already got.

‘We would like to bring one more attacking player to the football club. There are loads out there we could go and get but it has got to strengthen and better us and that is not easy because this is a very good squad.’

The loss of Cody McDonald to a broken foot was a blow but you suck it up and get on with it don’t you.

Paul Scally, who continues to back Edinburgh, is again thought to have given him the green light to make this loan move with the boss adding if the right person with a ‘bit of spark’ and that ‘x-factor’ about them can be signed wants them.

‘If the right person becomes available then we would look to do that. We are looking for that little bit of spark and x-factor to get us over the line.’
