It’s a match that’s been eagerly anticipated for month with John Egan telling KentOnline it was ‘probably the first game people looked at when the fixtures came out’ but the Millwall visit to Priestfield has extra spice.

Millwall already have a play-off place in the bag, if Gillingham are to have any chance of joining them we’ve got to beat them!

Then hope for help from Wigan and Sheffield United against Barnsley and Scunthorpe respectively….

Egan knows this is ‘a massive game’ with him hopeful we can make it ‘a brilliant day’ for the home fans, with the reverse fixture at the Den one they would have enjoyed immensely with the Gills winning three-nil.

‘The fans will be buzzing. Even when I went and got my hair cut four or five months ago the hairdressers were talking about it back then. Everyone has been waiting for this one. I have friends and family coming from Ireland and it should be a great atmosphere. Millwall will have their group of fans and our fans will be backing us to the hilt. It should make for a fantastic day.’

An injury-time Colchester equaliser against Barnsley last weekend kept Gillingham in with a slim play-off chance on the final day, which is something that would have been taken back in August.

But after the season we’ve had (on the whole) to slip away is a little disappointing!

Egan admitted our form hasn’t been ‘where we would like’ recently but he (and his teammates) remain positive.

‘Everyone is still positive. Results haven`t gone for us in the last two or three months but we live to fight another day. We have another game and the good thing is that we had a fantastic start to this season and that has allowed us to still be in there with a chance.’

Finishing by adding.

‘Our form hasn`t been where we would like it to be over the last few months but because of the start we had, we are still up there. Going into the last day there is something to play for. Let`s see what happens.’
