Gillingham are represented in the latest Football League team of the week that has been selected after this week’s action.

The performance by Tom Eaves in the two one victory over Charlton Athletic on New Year’s Day at The Valley was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the Football League pyramid.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why Eaves was selected as part of the team but explaining the choice – the FL blurb read.

‘It was a historic day for the Gills, who picked up three points for the first time at the Valley, courtesy of a 2-1 win in their clash with Charlton Athletic. Eaves` performance stood out and after expertly teeing up Josh Parker to open the scoring, he then poked home himself for what proved to be the winner.’

It’s always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to Eaves for his recognition, but the most important thing about the game was of course the points.
