Gillingham might have suffered a setback in the league this weekend, however heading into it the Official Website confirmed the positive news Josh Wright had extended his Gills stay.

Ahead of the defeat at Colchester it was announced former Charlton, Scunthorpe, Millwall and Leyton Orient man Wright had signed a new deal with the Gills to stay until the end of the season.

Initially coming back to the club, where he had been on loan previously, on a trial capacity in the summer he then secured a short-term contract but such has been the impact the midfielder has made Justin Edinburgh made it clear he wanted to extended his stay, which was confirmed ahead of the two-one defeat against Colchester, with the U’s becoming the first side to beat us in League 1!

Edinburgh said.

‘Josh has been a fantastic addition to our squad and I’m delighted he has chosen to stay.

‘He has provided lots of experience to our midfield area and I have no doubt he will continue to be a key member of our squad moving forwards.’

Given the impact the 25-year-old has made, just as he did during his short loan when he helped us to promotion into League 1 in 2009, it’s little surprise he’s extended his deal with Wright staying until the end of the campaign, at least, definitely the right thing!
