Leon Legge hasn’t sat on the shelf for long as the former Gillingham defender has signed a contract with Cambridge.

After two-and-a-half-years with the Gills, which saw the defender score an impressive eight-goals from his appearance number that fell just short of 100 (he managed 92 appearances) Legge was informed recently by Justin Edinburgh that he wouldn’t be renewing his contract.

Legge and three others would become free agents this summer….

But this wasn’t the case for him for long as he’s signed a two-year contract with League 2 outfit Cambridge with him telling the Official Cambridge Website that this new chapter in his life is one he’s looking forward to and hopes his experience can made a difference at the Abbey Stadium.

‘I have had a little bit of experience in League Two before and won this division with Gillingham.

‘Hopefully I can share that experience with other lads in the side, so we’ll be looking to push up high in the league and do great things here.

‘It is a new chapter for me in my career and I can’t wait to meet the rest of the lads and get going.’
