Bradley Dack had been linked with Bristol City for the closing weeks of the transfer window, with deadline day also bringing a rumoured interest from Ipswich, which didn’t amount to anything.

Dack had been informed of previous interest but Justin Edinburgh has already revealed the midfielder told him he didn’t feel a move to the Championship club was the right one for him anyway.

That didn’t stop an increased offer, reportedly £2m, coming in on deadline day with this also turned down so the 22-year-old will spend the remainder of this season, at least with the Gills.

One that could have come in was Newport midfielder Mark Byrne, who had been of interest to Edinburgh.

BBC Wales said an enquiry had been made before Edinburgh ‘changed his mind over a player’, who he previously worked with at Rodney Parade having signed him for Newport deciding he didn’t want to bring him to Priestfield.
