Gillingham manager Martin Allen isn’t afraid to bring youngsters into the fold. And another has done just that, been brought into the mix.

Josh Hare, who was an unused sub recently, has been awarded with his first professional contact after impressing in the development squad.

Allen, as he told the official website, believes the midfielder has more than earned his contract but has also warned him the next steps are the toughest: ‘Josh has been outstanding in the last two development games in the holding central midfield role.

‘This boy is very well-behaved, conscientious and caring and a pleasure to work with.

‘He listens, he learns and is a sponge for information. The last rung of this ladder is the hardest to climb and requires a commitment to get bigger, stronger, faster and more powerful and to be a good athlete.’

This contract is for one-year with The Gills having the option of a second.
